Abstracted Reflections

There's a story in every image. Today I unearthed a little U.S. flag from a box in my closet. The flag belonged to my grandfather. In 1906 he immigrated to the U.S. from Finland. In 1918 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Upon his induction he was granted U.S. citizenship, and was given this little flag to carry in battle during WWI. The flag has 48 stars on the bed of blue -- Hawaii and Alaska were not yet part of the United States.

I placed a shiny silver spoon on top of the flag to catch the reflection in the underside of the spoon bowl. My next experiment will be using the tines of a fork to make these look like shooting stars -- maybe catch a little bokeh in the background too.

  1. Very cool Stephanie, love the story behind the flag. However, I had to look up the meaning of bokeh, interesting.
